Step 1: Warming-up (2 minutes)

1. Greet the students and have a free talk about the weather today.

2. Show some pictures of different weather conditions and ask students to describe them using simple English sentences.

Step 2: Presentation (3 minutes)

1. Present the sentences in Grammar Focus on the PPT and ask students to read them aloud.

2. Guide students to observe the verb forms and time expressions in the sentences and ask them to think about the differences between the two tenses.

3. Explain the structures and usage of the present continuous tense (be + doing) and the simple present tense (subject + verb in base form/ third person singular form) with examples on the blackboard.

4. Summarize the key points and differences of the two tenses in a table on the PPT.

Step 3: Practice (4 minutes)

1. 3a: Students read the sentences and discuss in pairs what tenses they use and when to use each tense. Then, invite some pairs to share their ideas.

2. 3b: Students complete the conversations with the correct forms of the verbs in brackets individually. Check the answers together and explain the reasons.

3. 3c: Students complete the passage with the correct forms of the verbs in brackets in groups. Each group selects a representative to present their answers on the blackboard. Correct and analyze the answers together.

Step 4: Production (3 minutes)

1. 3d: Students imagine that they are at a beautiful place outdoors and describe the weather and activities to their partners. Their partners try to guess where they are.

2. Invite some pairs to come to the front and have a demonstration. Encourage other students to ask questions and make comments.

Step 5: Summary and Homework (1 minutes)

1. Summarize the main points of this lesson, emphasizing the correct usage of the present continuous tense and the simple present tense.

2. Assign homework: Write a short composition about the weather and activities in your hometown, using the two tenses learned today.
